Oz Callbacks

OZ

How to prepare for “Destination Oz” callbacks.

If you did not audition on October 4th, and would like to attend “Destination Oz” callbacks, please email John at sfcmtheater@gmail.com and include your name and age.

Saturday, Oct 11th. 11:30am-1:30pm. City Dance. 1420 Harrison St.

All cast members should be open to playing any part, regardless if it’s a leading, supporting or ensemble role. All cast members, from the Scarecrow to a citizen of Oz, will have a lot of stage time. Prior to auditioning for “Destination Oz”, we recommend you to be excited to be a part of the show as a whole rather than holding out for a specific role. We do not refund registration, costume or ticket fees to those who drop out due to not being happy with the role they have been selected to perform in.

You must be registered prior to attending callbacks and being considered for a role. If you have not yet registered, please plan on doing so on Saturday, Oct 4th at 11:30am.

PLEASE READ AND PREPARE!

For best results and to increase your chance of landing a leading role, we encourage you to sing for as many roles as possible. Holding out and only singing for one role will hurt your chances of getting cast for other roles when casting decisions are made. Singing for all roles for your gender will show us your versatility and allow us to potentially cast you in more roles.

Most leading roles will be double or triple cast to allow more opportunities for kids to be cast in a leading role.

Please download and rehearse with the sound file and be ready to sing snippets of any the roles below. For best results, we suggest that you memorize these clips instead of reading them. We have many talented youth trying out, and being able to not only sing but really perform these clips will give you an advantage. Feel free to add movement and give it your all.

Feel free to print out, and bring these lyrics with you.

Call back lyrics:

Wicked Witch of the West (female) 0:00-0:29
We all like to dance
So now here’s your chance
You’ll dance to your very last gasp
Gyrate, pirouette you’ll swelter and sweat
And stumble right into my grasp
You’ll find you can’t stop as you dance till you drop
And stumble right into my grasp
Enjoy your dance my pretty!

Glinda the Good Witch (female) 0:29-1:00
Home is a place in your heart
every journey leads you back to where you start
close your eyes its very easy
you’ll find that you’re already home

Dorothy (female) 1:02- 1:37
When all the clouds darken up the skyway
There’s a rainbow highway to be found
Leading from your window pane
To a place behind the sun
Just a step beyond the rain

1:37- 2:14
Somewhere over the rainbow
Bluebirds fly
Birds fly over the rainbow
Why then oh why can’t I

Yellow Brick Road Showgirls (female) 2:17-2:36
Oh! the bees in the breeze and the bats in the trees have a terrible, horrible buzz,
But the bees in the breeze and the bats in the trees couldn’t do what The Jitterbug does!
So be careful of that rascal, Keep away from The Jitterbug!

Growlie (male or female) 2:37-2:56
Ha ha ha
Ho ho ho
And a couple of tra la las
That’s how we laugh the day away
In the merry old land of Oz
Bzz, bzz, bzz
Chirp, chirp, chirp
And a couple of La di das
That’s how the crickets crick all day
In the merry old land of Oz

Wizard of Oz (male or female) 2:58-3:18
We call it history
A man’s called a traitor – or liberator
A rich man’s a thief – or philanthropist
Is one a crusader – or ruthless invader?
It’s all in which label
Is able to persist

Scarecrow/Hunk (male or female) 3:21-3:40
I could while away the hours
Conferrin’ with the flowers
Consultin’ with the rain
And my head, I’d be scratchin’
While my thoughts were busy hatchin’
If I only had a brain

Tin Woodman/Hickory (male) 3:41-3:59
Picture me a balcony
Above a voice sings low
Wherefore art thou, Romeo?
I hear a beat, how sweet!

Cowardly Lion/Zeke (male) 4:00-4:30
Each rabbit would show respect to me. The chipmunks genuflect to me.
Though my tail would lash, I would show compash
For every underling!
If I – If I – were King!
Just King!

The Punchkins (female or male) 4:33-4:50
As Coroner, I thoroughly examined her
And she’s not only merely dead,
She’s really most sincerely dead

Spike (Lead Flying Monkey – male or female) 4:53-5:13
When I wake up in the afternoon
Which it pleases me to do
Don’t nobody bring me no bad news
‘Cause I wake up already negative
And I’ve wired up my fuse
So don’t nobody bring me no bad news
